What does "Solento" mean?
Solento is based on the Spanish translation of the words “slow sun”.
Sol = sun and Lento = slow.
Where is Solento Organic Tequila made?
Solento's agave is grown and produced slowly and organically in Amatitán, Jalisco, Mexico at Tequila Las Americas (NOM 1480). Our friends at Tequila Las Americas, the Montes family, are three generations of agave farmers and distillers. They practice a production process that respects the environment and favors quality over quantity. Harvesting in small batches from a single estate, our jimadors are meticulous in their technique; they carefully remove the bitter stem leaving behind only the naturally sweet parts of the agave.
What does the term “single-estate” tequila mean?
“Single Estate” means that all or the majority of the ingredients needed to make a product comes from one area. Solento is “single estate” because the agave plants, water, and process all come from and happen in the same area. This is important as it allows us to maintain and monitor the highest degree of quality and control.
What makes Solento organic? Is all tequila organic?
Solento is proudly USDA certified organic. To become USDA certified, a rigorous certification process must be followed. The agave must be grown without pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). The tequila making process also must not include any additives. And no, not all tequila is certified organic!
Is Solento Organic Tequila gluten-free? Additive Free? Vegan?
Yes, yes, and yes! Distilled spirits (including tequila) are gluten-free however gluten can be added back to the tequila when brands use additives such as extracts, flavorings, or certain caramel colorings. Solento Organic Tequila is free of any additives, natural or artificial, therefore is a naturally gluten free, additive free, and vegan product.
How long does agave take to grow?
While some tequila brands will harvest as early as 4 years (potentially requiring the use of some artificial flavors and additives to maintain sweetness) we allow our agave to grow organically for 7 years, harvesting at the perfect ripeness for a naturally sweet tequila.
