Thanksgiving Food Pairings
Tequila is a drink of celebration. For decades, tequila has been the glass you raise to mark an occasion — making it the perfect addition to your Thanksgiving table. Though not the first drink that comes to mind when making food pairings, if you are a tequila lover, you may be pleasantly surprised at the way different Solento expressions highlight and complement your traditional holiday meal. Below are a few of our favorite combinations that are sure to impress your guests.
Green Salad with Solento Blanco
While never the show stopper of a Thanksgiving meal, the green salad is a crucial starter to a decadent feast. A mixture of fresh produce with a punchy vinaigrette dressing blends beautifully with the flavors of Solento Blanco. Notes of pepper and citrus found in the tequila are especially complementary to arugula and winter fruits.
Roasted Vegetables and Solento Reposado
A classic addition to any Thanksgiving table, roasted vegetables are a natural partner to Solento Reposado. The process of roasting brings out the organic sweetness of the vegetables through caramelization, imparting a nutty and toasted flavor. Solento Reposado has deep flavors of honey and cinnamon that are highlighted by the slight salinity of this dish. We recommend including carrots, sweet potatoes, brussel sprouts, and onion to your roasting pan.
Roasted Turkey with Gravy and Solento Reposado
The main event. No Thanksgiving feast is complete without the traditional Turkey with gravy. Savory and fatty, roasted turkey brings out the notes of cooked agave and caramel in Solento Reposado. Add a rich mushroom gravy to enhance the subtle earthy flavors of oak and almond. Be forewarned though - combining tequila and tryptophan can make for a heavy post-dinner nap!
If a neat pour of tequila isn’t your style, try our Slow Cider for this course. Place a large sphere of frozen apple cider into a rocks glass and pour 3 oz of Solento Reposado on top. Garnish with both a stick and sprinkle of cinnamon, with a slice of fuji apple on top.
Pumpkin Pie and Solento Añejo
Solento Añejo is the dessert of tequilas. Aged in American Oak for 18 months, the resulting liquid is buttery smooth with notes of maple. Pair Solento Añejo Tequila with Pumpkin Pie for a new spin on an old-school confection! The bold notes of vanilla and subtle undertones of apple in our top-shelf tequila harmonize with the spiced and velvety tastes of Pumpkin Pie. Don’t forget to add a hearty dollop of hand-whipped cream!
When gathering with loved ones, we encourage you to slow down and savor the moment — all the better if it is with a glass of organic tequila in hand. Slip slowly, relax, and enjoy the glow of the holiday. Here at Solento, we are thankful for the bounty of Jalisco, the joy of tequila, and the community of folks we are able to share our days with. Happy Holidays!
