3 Nights of Films

The grand finale of the Solento Surf Festival is always the Film Nights — three consecutive lineups of fun bands, epic films, and special guests and panelists. This year did not disappoint — it might have even been our favorite year yet!

Thursday
Night 1 kicked off the weekend just right! It was the perfect blend of storytelling and it left us excited for what was to come.

A few highlights:
  • A high-energy, good-feeling performance from the locally based, Band of Gringos
  • A touching story about keeping the stoke alive with The Granny Grommets
  • An incredible story of Tom Lowe's resiliency, character and insane big wave surfing including a panel with director Keith Malloy of Let Me Live
  • A fun edit of never-ending perfect surfing by Asher Pacey, who also shared his experience with director Logan Dulien of Snapts to Nowhere: The Search for Jeremiah's Cove
  • And finally, the experience that The Road to Patagonia truly is — thank you for sharing yourselves with us (even if from afar Matty Hannon and Heather Hillier)

Friday
The energy continued into Night 2, with a sold out show. The full house was awesome — everyone had the best time (our team included).

A few highlights:
  • A lovely, dreamy performance by Helena Holleran
  • A fun, fast-paced film of everyone’s favorite brothers (John John, Nathan + Ivan Florence) in Here and There
  • An epic adventure of exploring the waters of Vancouver Island + an awesome panel with Director Nate Laverty and the surfers (Pete Devries, Mathea Olin, Sanoa Olin) of Creatures of Habit
  • The Snapt5 crew bringing the heat with Below The Cut (insane surfing and good laughs) Parker Coffin, Taro Watanabe, Levi Slawson + Director Logan Dulien
  • And finally, North Stars! An unforgettable story of a life’s surfing journey. So stoked to have had them in-person as well, so big thank you to Adrien Toyon + Yentl Touboul!

Saturday
Wow, Night 3 – what a way to end the 4th Annual Solento Surf Festival! Another sold out show, another incredible lineup. We couldn't have imagined a better turn out and we thank everyone for joining us for the films!

A few highlights:
  • An epic performance by one of our favorite bands, Sunbendr
  • A crazy-good edit of surf legends in Ripcurl Search Movie: Lazer Breathing Dragons featuring Stephanie Gilmore, Mason Ho + Tom Curren
  • An intimate portrayal of the unstoppable Becca Speak — we are so inspired by you and your journey! Huge thank you for coming out to be with us (and co-director Anna Burns)
  • An all-time lineup and surf trip in 333 Degrees: Into the Cooly-verse (featuring Mick Fanning, Joel Parkinson + Dean Morrison). So fun hanging out with our friend, Mick as well! Always glad to have you in the house!
  • And last but not least, Horse featuring the extremely talented Noa Deane

As the 4th Annual Solento Surf Festival comes to a close, we wanted to take a moment to extend a big thanks to our team at Solento Tequila, all the volunteers from Surfrider (and friends!) and the people behind La Paloma Theatre — we wouldn’t have been able to do it without you all.

And of course, one last big thank you to all our sponsors. We are so grateful for our partnerships. Cheers and see you next year!
