Solento Travel Guide: Barbados
We are so excited to announce that Solento is now available in Barbados 🏝️
In celebration of opening this new market, we’ve put together another Solento Travel Guide, this time with everything you need to know about Barbados; from the best places to stay, to must-try restaurants, to hidden gems and off-the-beaten-path experiences.
Barbados is the perfect destination for everyone – epicureans, adventure-seekers and historians alike will enjoy the white sand beaches, vibrant culture and welcoming personas of all that you meet. With recommendations from locals and well-traveled friends, please use this guide to discover what we love about this beautiful island.
Here are some recommendations on where to savor + sip, stay + sleep, and see + surf:
SAVOR
- Cuz’s Fish Stand: A local stalwart that serves flying-fish sandwiches. Definitely get one with cheese.
- Pat’s Place: Next to Oistins Fish Market. Go for the grilled marlin and maracroni pie.
- La Cabane: Uses only local, organic ingredients. Mediterranean with Caribbean influences. If you’re thirsty, Solento is available to sip here.
- Baia Barbados: Amazing sunset views with Peruvian-inspired dishes. We recommend the Al Pastor tacos and a Solento Reposado on the rocks.
SIP
- John Moore’s Rum Shop: Est. in 1959, local customers call this place “the office”. Tip: As an authentic Rum Shop, they only serve pure Rum, so don’t ask for mixed drinks — buy a bottle of rum, a bottle of Coke and DIY.
- One Eleven East: A beautiful cottage turned cafe that is the ideal spot for a leisurely mid-afternoon drink.
- Surfers Bay Bar: A hidden gem that features delicious food and local music.
- Sea Shed: Beachfront spot with lots of sips. We suggest the Tequilito with Solento Blanco.
STAY + SLEEP
- Little Arches: Laid-back, boutique hotel. They also have an award-winning rooftop restaurant, Café Luna. Oh and it’s adult-only, so it’s the perfect place for a Honeymoon or couple’s getaway.
- The Sandpiper: Located on the outskirts of Holetown, this is the kind of place where you’ll find guests with rum cocktails in hand and deck shoes flicked off. People relish in the luxurious yet informal spirit of this property.
- Little Good Harbor: This small, low-key, relaxed and out of the way property lies on Barbados' sleepy north-west coast. The perfect hotel for families and groups visiting Barbados, since the accommodations are cottage style.
- Lone Star Hotel: Intimate in style, with cool, contemporary touches. Don’t forget to try their Caribbean cocktails at their in-house restaurant and bar.
SEE
- North Point: Spectacular views — where the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean meet.
- Catamaran cruise: Enjoy the sunset with a rum cocktail in hand and sail around the island.
- Hunte’s Gardens and Nursery: A tranquil tropical garden filled withflowering plants and towering trees. Say hi to the owner, Anthony Hunte!
- Queen’s Park Gallery: A historical property that features works in all mediums by well-established and emerging visual artists local to Barbados.
SURF
- Soupbowl: A heavy, hollow right with a powerful medium length left.
- Brandon’s: A long, rippable left and short right with an air section at the end, with flat reef bottom.
- Freights: This wave is the longest left in Barbados. Great for long boarders, intermediate surfers and beginners.
- Duppies: Beautiful scenery, and is a long powerful right, ideal for big carves.
Big thank you to Alan Burke and other Solento Family for helping us create this guide.
